The Lord Mayor of London, the Right Honourable Fiona Woolf CBE, presented the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers'  restigious Triennial Awards on 17th July in the gracious setting of Carpenters Hall at in the heart of the City of London.

The Awards, sponsored this year by the Association of Brickwork Contractors, The Brick Development Association, York Handmade Brick Company, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors and The Tile Association, recognise excellence in the Company's three crafts: Bricklaying; Roof Slating and Tiling; and Wall and Floor Tiling and are for schemes  completed in the preceding three year period, historically within an 8 mile radius of Charing Cross but now within the area prescribed by the M25 motorway.

The assessors, chaired by eminent architect Rab Bennetts of Bennetts Associates, had a difficult task selecting from a shortlist compiled from a large number of excellent entries. They ultimately decided on three worthy winners. The quality of the winning schemes in each category was achieved in the face of a variety of constraints which made the excellence of craftsmanship exhibited all the more impressive.

The Right Honourable Lord Mayor and the Master, David Cole-Adams, commented on the overall high standard of entries and the reassurance that excellent traditional craftsmanship can still be found and remains valued within London notwithstanding the trend towards less traditional fixing and laying methods seen in many high profile schemes.
