Simon became the 440th Master of the Worshipful Company of Tylers & Bricklayers on 30 September 2021 and Deputy Master on the completion of his year as Master. He was introduced to the Tylers & Bricklayers in 2001 by his uncle, John Martin (Master, 2002-03).
Simon is a solicitor by profession and spent his legal career with Macfarlanes LLP in the City, specialising in corporate M&A work. During his 32 years with Macfarlanes, Simon spent two years in the firm’s Tokyo office and had stints as Head of the Corporate Department and as Managing Partner.

Simon retired from Macfarlanes in 2015 to begin a second career working for various charities in various capacities. He is a trustee of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity (the Army’s national charity) and a Protector (a quasi trustee role) of two Lottery funded charitable trusts: the Forces in Mind Trust, which awards grants and commissions research to enable more ex-Service personnel and their families to make a successful and sustainable transition into civilian life, and the Centre for Ageing Better, which works to address the challenges and recognise the opportunities resulting from more people living longer. Simon is also a Governor at St Albans High School for Girls.

Simon joined the Court in 2013 and has served as Chair of the Communications Committee and the Finance Committee.

Simon is married to Jenny and they live in Hertfordshire. They have three adult daughters. In his spare time, Simon enjoys working in the garden, playing golf, skiing, watching most sports (long suffering Arsenal season ticket holder) and, before covid, regular trips to the theatre and cinema.

Simon is passionate about heritage property and the countryside and has completed several long distance walks (including the Ridgeway and the Cotswolds Way) and one day walking challenges (including the National and Yorkshire Three Peaks, the Trailwalker Challenge and the Cateran Yomp).
