Support for charitable causes is one of the four core values which underpin the role of the Tylers and Bricklayers Company. The Company's Charitable Trusts enable gifts to be made to several causes with the emphasis on those with connections to the City of London, activities involving young people, the crafts of tiling and bricklaying and our associated Regiment, the Corps of Royal Engineers. Each year the Trustees (who administer the Trust Funds on behalf of the Company) make a visit, accompanied by the Master, to one of the charities supported by the Company. Grants are made on an annual basis and, whilst many donations are recurring, funds are distributed to a few new charities each year at the discretion of the Trustees. The Master, during his or her year in office, will traditionally nominate a charity to receive a donation. Grants are not usually made to individuals.

The Craft Trust also combines four funds which provide prizes and awards for excellence in brickwork and tiling. These are the E and R Fuller Award for Bricklaying; the Mason-Elliott Award for Roof Slating and Tiling; the Montgomery Award for Wall and Floor Tiling and the Stokes Royal Engineers Awards. The Tylers and Bricklayers Craft Awards are held annually.

Furthermore, the Craft Trust supports The Triennial Awards. Charity of the Year 2020-2021 The St Edmunds Society
As part of the 450th Anniversary of the Charter presented by Queen Elizabeth I, the Tylers and Bricklayers Company launched a Charity of the Year Appeal. Supported by donations from members of the Company, the Charitable Trust and the Craft Trust, a cheque for £3,500 was presented by the newly installed Master, Simon Martin to Lorraine Bliss MBE, Chief Executive Officer of the St Edmunds Society, at the Installation Luncheon on 30th September 2021.

The Christ’s Hospital Appeal 2021-2022
An appeal for Christ's Hospital School in 2007-2008 has allowed us to establish two Donation Governorships starting in 2009. Having successfully funded two Presentee pupils at the school, this year will see the launch of a major fundraising initiative by the Master, Simon Martin. With an Appeal Committee headed by Deputy Master, Lesley Day the target is to raise sufficient funds for a third pupil. More news on the appeal and its progress will follow.
