Our charitable activities

The Company's Charitable Trusts enable gifts to be made to a number of causes with the emphasis on those with connections to the City of London, activities involving young people, the crafts of tiling and bricklaying and our associated Regiment, the Corps of Royal Engineers.

There are four Craft funds which provide yearly prizes and awards for excellence in brickwork and tiling. The Craft Trust also makes an annual donation to the Construction Youth Trust and to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust to support the Jackson Tile Museum.

The main Charitable Trust provides recurring donations to:
  • the Brunswick Youth Club Trust,
  • the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy,
  • the City of London Police Widows' and Orphans' Fund,
  • the Lord Mayor's Appeal,
  • the City of London Endowment Trust for St Paul's Cathedral,
  • the Church of St Margaret Lothbury,
  • the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and
  • St Paul's Cathedral School.
Through the Noreen Kerr endowment we provide prizes for
  • City of London School for Boys,
  • the City of London School for Girls and
  • the City of London Freemen's School.

Prizes are also given to St Paul's Cathedral School through the Martin Fund.

An appeal for Christ's Hospital School in 2007-2008 has allowed us to establish two Donation Governorships starting in 2009.

Grants are made on an annual basis and whilst most donations are recurring, as listed above, a small balance is distributed to a few new charities each year at the discretion of the Trustees. Grants are not usually made to individuals.

In addition to the above there is a small Relief in Need fund which is able to offer financial help to the elderly and needy of the Livery or their close family.
