Those of you who know me will know that I am currently the Chief Executive of the Brick Development Association (BDA) representing the clay brick manufacturing industry in the UK. The BDA is a keen supporter of the T&Bs.

Schooled in Southampton, I started work in the mid-1970s as an electrical installation engineer with Drake & Scull Engineering Limited, qualified and then took a degree in education in London moving up at the same time.  In 1983, I ended up teaching electrical installation, IT & electronics in further education and also design technology in secondary schools in and around South London.

I was very fortunate enough to be given a chance to work in industrial relations for the Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry where I went on to play a major role in setting up the sector’s non-statutory training organisation, replacing CITB. The firm, JTL went on to become the largest independent industrial training organisation in the UK. I worked also as Director of Training and Education at the Construction Confederation and then moved into the oil & gas  sector, as an Operations Director. I was the CEO of the ITSMF, a global body operating in 53 countries and based in the UK, and CEO of the British Institute of Cleaning Science based in Northampton. And as a result I have travelled the world extensively.

I joined the Livery movement through the Environmental Cleaners (my mother company) and the Information Technologists.  I'm absolutely delighted however, to be a member of the wonderful Tylers & Bricklayers, which I very much consider to be my home.

I have held several other roles, notably as CEO of the JIB for Plumbing and Mechanical Engineering Services, CEO of the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association, Chairman of the Pet Industry Federation & Chairman of the UK Pet Charity and I am currently a trustee and Chairman of RSPCA branches in Canterbury and Stort Valley near Bishops' Stortford and also a Trustee of the Brickworks Museum at Bursledon near Southampton.

I'm very grateful that my wife, Ally, a graphic designer, who lets me get out to do 'stuff' since our 5 children have left home. As far as hobbies goes, we both enjoy our boat which we keep in Gosport. We are both former Round Tablers. And occassionally when we get time, Ally & I will ride across Europe on one of my motorbikes (I can't resist them!).  We also have a beautiful Labrador, Buzz, who keeps us pretty fit, heaven knows how many Guinea Pigs and about 3 or 4 million bees!
